Stephanie MacLeod Recipient of the Central Girls Soccer League Caroline Jones Scholarship
Dear EGSC Board Members: I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. It seems that not very long ago I was lacing up my first pair of soccer boots and running the wrong way on the soccer pitch, eager to shoot at my own goalie while I pulled up soccer shorts that ran past my knees. Now, fourteen years later, I have had the opportunity to play premier soccer and represent the Town of East Gwillimbury at Disney in Florida. I have been blessed to develop relationships with teammates that share my passion for soccer and have been coached by some wonderful coaches dedicated to the sport. The icing on the cake is the fact that I am coaching 3-4 year old mites who not only remind me of myself but also make Wednesday evenings the best night of the week.
When my soccer stars arrive at the pitch to play, I realize how lucky I am to live in East Gwillimbury and to be involved with the EGSC. Your dedication and commitment as volunteers and EGSC board members have made it possible for me to have played soccer, refereed soccer, and now coached soccer. More importantly, coupled with the CGSL, you provided an arena for me to grow as an individual, fall in love with the game of soccer, and apply for and receive the CGSL Caroline Jones Scholarship Award for 2008. I would not have experienced any of these moments without each of you.
This September I will be attending Nipissing University in North Bay, enrolled in the concurrent education program with a goal to become a primary school teacher. Although this is a new chapter in my life, I will take with me the memories as an EGSC player, referee and coach. At our new student orientation at Nipissing University, the speaker stressed that we are to bring only the items that are important to us and that we will really need, as space in the dorm is lean. Among these items will be my Talons soccer shirt, my soccer boots, a soccer ball, a picture of my “super mites” and a recording of Silver Team 11’s team cheer: “We’re silver, we’re white, we’re dynamite. We’ve got the power, the speed, we’re the team to beat. Go silver……”.
Best personal regards,
Stephanie Alexis MacLeod
